Quatre ans après une première édition à cheval entre deux villes, Berlin et Glasgow, les championnats d’Europe multisports découvriront l’unité en 2022. A Munich, en Bavière. Malgré le jeu de piste actuel du calendrier sportif, ils conserveront leurs dates initiales, du 11 au 21 août. Pour le reste, mystère.
Une question, surtout, n’est pas encore tranchée : avec quels sports ? Quelques mois en arrière, la réponse semblait acquise. Munich 2022 devait suivre les traces de l’édition 2018, en incluant l’athlétisme, l’aviron, le cyclisme, le golf, la gymnastique et le triathlon. La présence de la natation restait au conditionnel, la Ligue européenne (LEN) n’ayant toujours pas annoncé sa décision.
Mais les choses sont en train de changer. Le mois dernier, le golf a été retiré du programme. En cause, la décision du Tour européen et du Ladies European Tour de revoir leurs calendriers respectifs, désormais incompatibles avec une présence des meilleurs joueurs à Munich au mois d’août 2022.
Un coup dur pour les organisateurs allemands. Mais une décision récente du conseil municipal de la capitale de la Bavière pourrait leur sauver la mise. Et même, sans doute, donner à l’événement une dimension nettement plus vaste.
