Olympic Day celebrations kicked off today in Belek as the Turkish Olympic Committee invited 300 children from local schools to participate in the first of a series of educational and sporting events – all of which are sponsored by the TOC’s main partner, Koç Holding.

The celebrations took place at the renowned Gloria Sports Arena which - overlooking Antalya’s glorious coastline - is the largest multisport complex in the Mediterranean. The resort has become a popular destination for international sport and meetings, the latest of which was the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Seminar and Extraordinary General Assembly.

A strong delegation are in attendance today, including TOC President Professor. Dr. Uğur Erdener, TOC Secretary General Neşe Gündoğan and Antalya Deputy Governor Dr. Mestan Yayman. Speaking from Belek, TOC President Professor. Dr. Uğur Erdener said:

"Olympic Day is a fantastic celebration of the Olympic values which are so important for Turkish society. With 31 million people under the age of 25 in Turkey it is imperative that we continue to place emphasis on encouraging our youth to maintain healthy lifestyles and develop their strength both physically and mentally. The Turkish Olympic Committee, with the help of our main sponsor Koç Holding, can continue to celebrate and promote the positive values of Olympism among our citizens through the development of inspiring programmes for Turkey’s young people."

Celebrations are set to continue throughout the coming weeks as the TOC heads back to Istanbul to arrange Olympic Day activities for children from fifteen different schools across the city.
