Olympic Council of Asia's Evaluation Committee visit iconic sites of Riyadh 2030 Asian Games bid

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – 9 November 2020:

Members of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA)’s 2030 Evaluation Committee toured Riyadh today experiencing the world-class venues, iconic landmarks, and modern and sustainable transport infrastructure that form Riyadh’s transformative bid for the 2030 Asian Games.

Yesterday, on the first day of the OCA Evaluation Committee’s visit, the Riyadh 2030 Bid Committee shared Riyadh’s vision of Transforming The Future through a celebration of sport on a spectacular stage. OCA Evaluation Committee members learned how Riyadh 2030 would work as a trusted partner to the OCA to reimagine the model for hosting the Asian Games with a bid that is ultra-modern yet steeped in history, ambitious but realistic and visually stunning but environmentally-conscious.

Spectacular locations across two zones of the city – the Diriyah Historical Zone and Qiddiya – produce the basis of a compact, efficient and well-connected hosting plan and feature world-class venues including:

Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre - Gymnastics / Badminton / Table Tennis

King Fahd International Stadium – Football Finals

Malaz Cluster – Athletics / Taekwondo / Judo

Saudi Arabia Olympic Committee Complex – Waterpolo / Bowling / Handball / Cycling

King Fahd Cultural Centre – Weightlifting

Qiddiya site – Athletes' Village / Asian Games Park; events including Basketball / Tennis / Swimming

Diriyah and the Al-Turaif District – UNESCO World Heritage Site

King Saud University Cluster – Volleyball / Wushu / Hockey / Skateboarding

Existing state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venues in central Riyadh’s Diriyah Historical Zone and the developing site at Qiddiya will deliver the bid’s vision of hosting a sustainable and financially responsible Asian Games. Riyadh 2030’s transformative Games Plan would create a unique festival atmosphere, captivating athletes and fans and leaving an enduring legacy across the region.

Driven by HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Saudi Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Vision Realisation Program, the bid is committed to inspiring a new generation of fans across Asia and promoting participation in cultural, environment, and sports activities.
