President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stressed that his government managed to reduce murders slightly in Mexico, but journalist Jorge Ramos believes that this administration will be the most violent of the century, because three years into office he estimates that there have been more than 110,000 intentional homicides.

“In the middle of the six-year term, the main concern is the death of so many Mexicans,” reiterated the journalist who questioned the head of the federal executive on the same subject in his morning conferences.

In an interview with Infobae México, Jorge Ramos described as a tragedy the increase in victims since the Tabasqueño came to power, since among those who have been deprived of their lives are also those who worked as journalists and activists.

During his morning of April 20, the president emphasized that murder numbers have dropped by 13.5% since their all-time high in July 2018, when there were 3,074 cases. Previously, in his 100-day report in 2022, López Obrador specified that homicides have decreased by 3.5% in the current period of government.

The president emphasized that, had they not acted with the attention of social programs, they might not have recorded slight decreases in murders that increased year after year with historical figures. Although it presented decrements in 9 out of 12 high-impact crimes, it recognized a 15% increase in femicides so far in the presidency.

Jorge Ramos insisted that almost any Mexican or Mexican has been the victim of any crime of murder or kidnapping, but the worst thing is that they are not punished by the prosecution of justice.

According to the latest figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), 66.2% of the population aged 18 and over considered it unsafe to live in their city.

These data correspond to the first quarterly report of 2022 of the National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU), which showed that this national percentage does not represent a statistically significant change compared to those recorded in March and December 2021, which were 66.4 and 65.8%, respectively .

In this edition, 16 cities and demarcations did have statistically significant changes compared to December 2021, seven had reductions and nine increased. The ENSU found that in March 2022, 71.1% of women and 60.4% of men had a perception of insecurity.

Jorge Ramos has reported three times since the morning conference and each of those times, his main question is that murders are not decreasing in the country, something promised by President López Obrador. The Tabasqueño attributed that the wave of violence increased since the six-year term of Felipe Calderón, when the war against drugs was declared.

On the other hand, the journalist considered that the Revocation of Mandate is a democratic exercise that must be exploited, since the Mexican political context has opened itself to choosing the country's destiny in recent times, contrary to what happened during the 80-year so-called dictatorship of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) ).
