It is perhaps a bit strange but in the same way very interesting to see Servant of the People, due to what is currently happening with Ukraine. However, it could be said that it is unmissable because the series was created and starred by Volodymir Zelensky, the current president of that country who is in the midst of a tragic war.
Servant of the People is a Ukrainian political satire television series that premiered on November 16, 2015. The main character is Vasyl Petrovych Holoborodko (Volodymyr Zelensky), a high school history teacher who unexpectedly becomes president of Ukraine, after which, a video (shot by one of his students) in which he criticizes the corruption of the Ukrainian government, goes viral. The series was produced by Kvartal 95, which was founded by Volodymyr himself.
Ukrainian production revolves around what it really means to be a servant of the people, as opposed to being an oversized manager. Speech based on the context of Ukraine at that time: a “young” democracy (25 years since the end of the Soviet era), and a people tired of the political class and its corruption. This also includes shadow powers.

Zelenski was a renowned Ukrainian television comedian. And it was in this comedy that he first appeared on television as the “President of Ukraine”. Who would think that after that reality would imitate fiction?
In an interview conducted by T13 in 2019, after releasing the parody and taking the position as the first president of the Ukrainian people, Zelenski said: “Politics is not like in movies and I really want to help Ukraine and not take advantage of it. I want to help our people. They believe in me and pushed me to this.”
