The 55th Vallenata Legend Festival will once again shine in 2022 with a wide variety of presentations, competitions and activities, with which fans of the musical genre will make Valledupar dance.
Through a statement, the Vallenata Legend Festival Foundation announced the official program of the event, which, in this version, will be a tribute to Jorge Oñate, “The Legend”, also known as “The Goldfinch of America”.
The activities will begin at 8:30 in the morning next Friday, April 22 with the discussion “Jorge Oñate, in the history of canto vallenato”, which will be held at the University of the Andean Area in the capital of Cesar.
The agenda will continue on Saturday, April 23 at 3:00 in the afternoon with the Jeep Willys Parranderos parade, whose meeting point will be at the “Parque de la Leyenda Vallenata Consuelo Araujonoguera”.
On Sunday, April 24, from 8:30 in the morning, the Mayales Plaza Shopping Center will start the contest “Children paint the Vallenato Festival”, which will feature the participation of more than 150 students from Valledupar.

The children's accordion and minor accordion competitions will begin on Monday, April 25 from 8:00 in the morning at the La Pedregosa Recreational Center, and will run until next Friday, April 29 when the winners of this category are announced.
For its part, the youth accordion and amateur accordion competitions will begin on Tuesday, April 26 at 8:00 in the morning, while the major accordion competitions will begin at the same time on Wednesday, April 27.
After the parade of major piloneras, which will take place at 4:00 in the afternoon of the same day at the Los Musicos-Alfonso López Square, the inaugural ceremony of the Festival of the Legend of Vallenato, V Rey de Reyes, will be held in homage to Jorge Oñate, from 6:00 in the afternoon.
After several days of musical performances, next Saturday, April 30, the King of Kings will be crowned and the festival will conclude with a musical, cultural and folk show in the “Vallenata Consuelo Araujonoguera Legend Park”.

For this year's version, the awards amount to more than 400 million pesos, which will be divided into cash; musical instruments; audio technology equipment, and trophies, which will not only be given to representatives of each category who completely exalt traditional vallenato music, but also to the best voice of the musical encounter.
Regarding the requirements that accordion players and accordion players participating in the competitions of the 55th edition of the Vallenata Legend Festival must meet, the event reported that, both in the two rounds and in the semifinal, participants will not be able to repeat any of their songs performed. Likewise, professional accordioners will have to perform at least one song recorded by Jorge Oñate, in any of the four winds.
It is worth mentioning that the festival, which began in 1968, will have as its official song in this edition the production entitled 'The legend of the singer', by the composer, painter and vice-president of the Vallenata Legend Festival Foundation, Efraín 'El Mono' Quintero Molina.
