Former presidential candidate Ricardo Anaya recognized the opposition bloc for joining and stopping the Electric Reform of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).
And, it should be recalled, the energy initiative needed two thirds of the votes for its approval, which is why it was scrapped even though the final count added 275 votes in favor and 233 against.
Despite the fact that the opposition legislators, as well as the leaders of the Va por México coalition, celebrated the resolution - which they adopted as the Bartlett Law - Anaya Cortés declared that “it would be very naive to win.”
This, he warned, because López Obrador could use the resolution to justify the impossibility of lowering electricity costs: “It's completely absurd because what they wanted to do was generate electricity five times more expensive,” he said in a Twitter video.
It should be recalled that from the approach of the project, the blue and white bench assured that its entry into force, in addition to not guaranteeing accessibility in service prices, would imply a serious damage to the environment.
Hence the repeated attacks by Anaya against López Obrador for his intention to strengthen the sector in search of energy self-sufficiency in Mexico - which was one of the promises that most characterized the Morenoista campaign.
Under this tenor, the panista again emphasized the environmental effects that the Reform would have had if it were implemented by “putting dirty and expensive energy over clean and cheaper ones”.
In addition, it struck the Fourth Transformation Bloc (Q4) and its relatives for allegedly wanting to return to Mexico “in the time of the monopolies”, as well as preventing the arrival of the opposition bloc to the San Lázaro plenary session with blockades and postponements in the dates of the sessions.
Faced with this, Ricardo Anaya insisted on strengthening the union of the bloc to which he belongs because, if fulfilled, the opposition could “remove Morena” from the presidency for the 2024 contests - and in which he is expected to represent Acción Nacional again: “We are going to get them out”, he confirmed.
However, to that end, the opposition side will still have to go through the chapter of the Electoral Reform - also promoted by Andrés Manuel - and in which statutes are expected to be amended which govern the National Electoral Institute (INE).
“The next battle is to defend the INE because ending the INE is ending democracy and we cannot allow that. Today we know that the united opposition resists any adversity, we must remain united to serve Mexico,” he concluded.
Andrés Manuel had announced that after the Revocation of Mandate, he would send Congress an Electoral Reform initiative to seek a thorough re-engineering of the INE, with which will seek the election of electoral councillors by popular vote; the reduction in their salaries; and the reduction of the percentages of involvement of democratic exercises.
