A new chapter began to be written within the police case that had former Paraguayan footballer Salvador Cabañas as the protagonist 12 years ago. Elements of the Attorney General's Office (FGR) complied with an arrest warrant against a man who was reportedly involved in the attack on the former American footballer from Mexico.

The detainee, identified as Francisco José “N”, alias El Contador, was apprehended by members of the Federal Ministerial Police of the Toluca Delegation. According to the National Registry of Detentions, he was captured around 08:00 hours in a home located in the Llano Redondo neighborhood, in the Álvaro Obregón mayor's office.

It is worth remembering that in 2010 he had already been arrested by representatives of the then Federal Police for crimes against health and was pointed out for being an accomplice of José Jorge Balderas Garza, alias the JJ, a drug trafficker linked to the Beltrán Leyva cartel, but after nine years he was released.

Although JJ is serving a 20-year sentence in the Mexican prison system for the Cabañas attack, he maintains that the one who fired the gun was actually his bodyguard, El Contador.

“When I got out he was there obstructing the passage and I hit him and I said 'with permission', and he didn't listen to me. Then I went through it and rubbed it and it hit me, that's where I also got upset and claimed him. I saw that it was him and tried to calm the situation down, but he was very drunk and aggressive. Then we started fighting and 'El Contador' came in, who shot him,” said “El JJ” during an interview with journalist Carlos Loret de Mola.

His escort, for his part, assured at the time that Balderas Garza threatened Cabañas, saying “I am the one who is going to give you in the mother”. Seconds later he shot the footballer.

This latest version is the one that coincides with that of the footballer himself, who in dialogue with Infobae explained: “Jorge Balderas Garza told me: “You are stealing money from Mexico. I made your last wish.” I asked him, “Why am I going to make my last wish?” He said, “Because you're going to die.” He pulled out the gun and pointed it on my forehead. I said, “I'm not going to make a wish because I'm not going to die.” He insulted me and then shot me.”

This incident occurred during the early morning of January 25, 2010. Salvador Cabañas, who at that time was the great figure of Mexico's America, star of the Paraguayan national team and seen up close by several teams from Europe, starred in a discussion in the bathrooms of the Bar Bar establishment and was shot in the head.

El Chava was rushed to a hospital located in the south of Mexico City. After a long and miraculous recovery process, the athlete did not have particularly serious consequences on his health, although he still keeps the bullet lodged in his head.

However, this marked a break in his rising career. Although in 2012 he returned to play professionally in Paraguay's rise, his level was never the same again and he decided to retire in May 2014.

“I was walking among the clouds. I remember going into a garden and walking around. In the last part, I came across Jesus Christ. He touched my forehead with one of his fingers where I was shot. He lowered his hand to touch my left shoulder and said to me: 'You have a long way to be here. Return to Earth to help those most in need because of the power that I will grant you. ' He gave me another chance and realized it wasn't my time. After spending a week in a coma, I woke up in the hospital safe and sound,” Cabañas said.
