Freddy Rincón was one of the first great idols of Colombian football due to his legacy both in the Colombian national team and in the clubs he went through (Sante Fe, América de Cali, Palmeiras, Napoli, Real Madrid and Corinthians). A regrettable accident caused a head trauma that cost the striker his life.

In an interview with Mauricio Silva for Bocas Magazine in 2013, Freddy Eusebio commented on what for him were his five best goals in his career. The first was undoubtedly the goal against Germany in the World Cup in Italy 90 which meant the draw and the subsequent move to the round of 16 of the championship.

“When I go back and watch that goal I say that El Pibe is a genius because he wasn't really looking at me. I went to the area, because I always liked giving options. And when I saw that ball there, oh mamacita! , a hot potato” commented the former footballer in his talk with the journalist.

Another match remembered for his scoring was the 5-0 match against Argentina in the 1994 United States World Cup Qualifier. Rincón was in charge of opening the scoring at 41 minutes and his double was created in the 72-minute pass by Faustino Asprilla. However, the other annotations not much remembered by the followers.

At 11:30pm this Wednesday, April 13, the Imbanaco Clinic in Cali confirmed the death of Freddy Rincón in the sixth medical report on the state of health of the former athlete, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) three days after suffering a serious traffic accident in the early hours of last Monday, April 11 in the capital of Valle del Cauca.

The medical center had reported that Freddy Eusebius's condition was profoundly critical, taking into account the follow-up, diagnostic tests and radiological studies, which did not show a favorable development for him. In this regard, the medical director of the clinic, Laureano Quintero Barrera, had reported that the patient remained in extreme conditions in their respective ICU.

The mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, spoke on Monday to reveal new details about the accident in which Freddy was involved. The municipal president was able to compile that the collision against the bus of the public transport system occurred at 4:11 a.m., when the Ford truck with plates UGR 410 hit a bus in the vicinity of the El Perro park sector.

Ospina indicated that apart from Rincón, the investigation into the case was able to identify two other people who were traveling with the former player in the private vehicle: Maria Manuela Patiño, 20, and Diana Lorena Cortes, 43, who are out of danger.
