US authorities gave notice of the capture of a Colombian who had been at large from the Colombian justice system for approximately 28 years. This is William Hernando Usma Acosta.
The man was convicted as an absent prisoner in 1996 for the murder of his wife and the attempted murder of his daughter in 1994. The crimes for which he was sentenced to 45 years in prison were aggravated homicide, attempted aggravated homicide and illegal possession of a firearm.
Since then, the Colombian fugitive had a red notification from Interpol seeking to find his whereabouts and to serve the established sentence.
According to information provided by the United States authorities, the Colombian fugitive lived peacefully in Massachusetts. However, he was known as Carlos Alberto Rendón, a false name he adopted in order to evade justice.
The Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE) was responsible for letting the Colombian authorities know that the man accused of murdering his wife had been arrested.
Usma remains in the custody of that entity while the corresponding procedures are being carried out for him to appear before the Colombian justice system and the definition of where he will serve his sentence.

According to several national media, the man captured in Massachusetts murdered his wife Laura Rose Agudelo, in Medellin, Antioquia. The events occurred in 1994, when in the midst of a scenario of domestic violence, Usma drew a firearm and fired several times at women.
In the midst of the violent situation, her daughter tried to intervene to prevent the attack on Laura Rose. However, the accused did not care that it was the minor and also opened fire on her.
As a result of this act of domestic violence, Laura Rose Agudelo, wife of William Hernando Usma, died of serious injuries caused by the latter, while the couple's daughter managed to survive.
According to US authorities' records, the murderer crossed the border between Mexico and the United States illegally in 1995. Later, in 1998, he married a citizen of that country and obtained lawful permanent residence in Somerville, Massachusetts.
Later, the couple had a son with whom they moved to Belmont, where he was finally captured last Wednesday, April 13 by the authorities of that country.
