Salome Vargas, the seven-year-old girl missing in Santander, found dead

At first, the family considered that it was an abduction; the most recent hypotheses, however, point to the fact that the little girl died by immersion

Last week, the disappearance of a seven-year-old girl named Anny Salome Vargas Soto was alerted. His family claimed that the youngest had been lost while they were walking in a spa in Rionegro, in Santander. On the morning of April 11, it became known that the minor was found lifeless at kilometer 20 by the sea. Authorities confirmed that Anny's body was under a bridge that is located a few meters from the 'El Remanso' spa.

“Thanks to the work of the Rionegro Volunteer Fire Department and the Colombian Police, they found the lifeless body of the minor Angie Salome Vargas Soto on the bridge of the El Remanso spa. The causes of his death are the subject of investigation by the authorities”, reported from Disaster Risk Management of Santander.

Colonel Franklin Ruíz, commander of the Santander Police Department, pointed out that Ammy reportedly died by immersion. Another minor member of the family testified that the girl had entered the ravine without leaving a trace of her whereabouts. This would have happened on the afternoon of last Sunday.

“She was with my sister, I took a picture of her and turned around to hand my mom my cell phone, when I turned my back on her she disappeared and we never saw her again. The search has already been done in the ravine, in the mountains, everywhere but it does not appear,” the mother of the youngest, Genny Soto, told Caracol Radio. For that same talk, the woman claimed that it was unlikely that her daughter had drowned and that, on the contrary, she suspected that it was a kidnapping. The photo, she recalls, was taken around 12:45 noon.

“Initially we thought he had gone by the river, but no, they didn't find anything. She's a big, sturdy girl. She could swim, the river didn't cover her. The owners of the spa told us that a couple paid the entrance fee but that they didn't do more, they didn't bathe or eat lunch and that they never saw them again. The river is calm, there are no currents, it is a small well,” he argued. “I have a 19-year-old son, Salome and at the moment I'm pregnant, it's a tough situation. She is a restless child, she eats a lot, she is a good girl,” he revealed.

The theory of the girl's mother was joined by Nicole Landinez, cousin of the youngest. “The other version is that two people arrived at the spa, a bald man, with another girl, asked if there was lunch, and they went around the spa and disappeared,” added the other relative.

After 3:00 in the afternoon, at the call of the family, the authorities arrived and carried out the respective search on the river. Inquiries were made through the El Remanso spa and its surroundings, however, all efforts were insufficient to find the minor who had disappeared without leaving a trace.

The governor, Mauricio Aguilar, said: “I regret the disappearance of Salome while he was spending time with his family in the spa of Rionegro. Our Santander Police have been searching for the minor since the fact was known. We coordinate with the security forces and relief agencies to bring her home safe and sound.”

“The authorities reported on the discovery of the lifeless body of 7-year-old Salome Vargas, it is news that moves us as a city, I send my sincerest condolences to his family and friends, may it be God giving them strength to face this hard moment,” commented Alfonso Eljach, District Mayor of Barrancabermeja.
