Easter Week in Cajamarca: price of tours, tickets, stay, tourist places and more

Tourism in Peru. Easter is an ideal period for tourism in the interior of the country and Cajamarca is the perfect destination for this, as it has different exotic places. In addition, this place is known as “The City of the Cumbe” and it is also a city full of religious fervor. One of the biggest attractions during Holy Week is the Festival of the Crosses of Porcón, and it takes place on Palm Sunday. On this religious date, the image of Lord of Ramos is placed on a donkey, which is responsible for transferring the image throughout the town.

The celebration is extremely large and the whole community of Porcón and the Cajamarquina in general participates.

In this celebration, the crosses are adorned with mirrors, paintings, flowers and other ornaments that represent the soul of the devotees. Each cross reaches a little over two meters in height and weighs between 70 and 80 kilos.

THE WINDOWS OF OTUZCO

Las Ventanillas de Otuzco is a group of funerary buildings that are located 2,650 meters above sea level. They have a particular architecture with hundreds of windows and individual volcanic rock niches that reach between 8 and 10 meters deep. It is a cemetery that belongs to the Cajamarca culture.

CUMBEMAYO AND THE FRAILONS

It is 20 kilometers from the city of Cajamarca at exactly 3,500 meters above sea level.

These are Friars that belong to a forest of stony rocks that give the impression of people in procession. They are rocks eroded in the form of caves, abysses and strange figures. A couple of kilometers away you reach the pre-hispanic channel of Cumbemayo, an admirable work of engineering. Along the way you will find pre-Inca mines of Lanzón, it is undoubtedly a unique and extraordinary landscape.

CUTERVO NATIONAL PARK

This is considered Peru's First National Park and is located in the province of Cutervo, Cajamarca. This area is also known as the Cordillera de los Tarros. Its extension is more than 8,000 hectares that are home to a wide variety of flora and fauna with almost unique species at 2,200 and 2500 meters above sea level.

INCA ATAHUALPA RESCUE ROOM

It is located in the historic center of the city of Cajamarca and next to the San Francisco church, along with the Poza del Inca or Baños del Inca. It is the only relic of the Inca era, since the rest were destroyed. The room has an important historical value, as it is the place where the Inca Atahualpa offered a room full of gold and two silver to regain his freedom during the invasion spanish. The incarceration of the top leader of the Inca Empire was for 8 months and 10 days in 1532. It is one of the tourist attractions around Cajamarca, it is located 8 km from the city center, besides it is full of cows, which stands out from this resort.

LAGUNA SAN NIC

It is located 35 minutes from the city of Cajamarca in the district of Namora and is a place full of peace, contact with mother nature and tranquility.

The waters of Laguna San Nicolás are blue and are at 3000 meters above sea level. This place hides a lot of mysticism, charms, stories and of course unique fauna and flora. To access it you have to navigate in small totora rafts.

The inhabitants of the area indicate that the lagoon is brave because it is enchanted.

INCA BATHS

Located in the district of the same name 6 kilometers from the city of Cajamarca and 2,680 meters above sea level, the Baños del Inca Tourist Complex has hot springs with temperatures above 70°C (158 °F).

They also have therapeutic minerals that manage to heal the dermis, nervous system, bronchitis, bone diseases, and reduce gastrointestinal diseases.

There are 58 individual pools for tourists, 35 rooms with collective pools, an imperial section with 19 pools and 19 compartments with shower services.

PRICE OF TICKETS TO CAJAMARCA

Through the Google Flights platform we can see that prices start from S/750 soles on average during Easter. The journey takes about 1 hour to 1 hour and 20 minutes.

As for bus tickets, they take around 15 hours from Lima to Cajamarca and prices range from S/120 soles to S/170 soles.

COST OF HOTELS AND FOOD

According to the Google Travel platform, prices start at S/75 soles (per night) in the city center and include breakfast.

It should be noted that the largest number of hotels and lodgings are in the range of S/100 soles to more.
