One day after the Mandate Revocation, the National Electoral Institute (INE) reported that Tepetitán, Tabasco, and five municipalities in the state of Chiapas will run out of boxes for the democratic consultation on April 10.
This is due to the reduction in the budget of the electoral body and the political and social conditions in some of the municipalities.
In Tepetitán, in the Villa de Macuspana, the homeland of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), the reduction in the budget caused citizens of the 0929 electoral section to vote on the Vicente Guerrero telesecundaria, in the “El Triunfo” rancheria, a 25-minute drive from the municipality.
However, according to local media reports, the inhabitants accused that the INE “wants AMLO to lose, but people will not turn their backs on the president who is helping those most in need.”
While in Chiapas, the delegate of the electoral body in the entity, Gonzalo Rodríguez Miranda, announced that due to lack of political and social conditions in five municipalities of the entity, the exercise will not be able to be carried out, however, it will be carried out in the rest of the state.
The municipalities that will not participate in the consultation are: Frontera Comalapa, Honduras de la Sierra, Venustiano Carranza, Oxchuc and Pantelhó.
Rodríguez Miranda explained that in the first three demarcations there are no political conditions, whereas in Oxchuc the practice of electing the authorities is not governed by the party system, and in Pantelhó there is a dispute between criminal groups against the self-defence groups El Machete.
In addition, through a statement, the Institute detailed that District Council 08, based in Comitán de Domínguez, unanimously approved 31 boxes corresponding to Frontera Comalapa, as well as 34 from Venustiano Carranza “for supervening causes, in view of the absence of safe conditions to guarantee the integrity and life of the electoral assistant trainers to carry out the work of integration of polling stations” for the Revocation of Mandate.
He added that in Honduras de la Sierra, the 13th District Council based in Huehuetán, decided on April 7 to cancel four boxes for the same reasons, “and consequently their removal from the list of box locations.”
