The activities of the Australian Grand Prix began with the launch of the first two free practice sessions. The sessions were dominated by Ferrari drivers: Carlos Sainz remained the leader in practice one, while Charles Leclerc did so in two. On board the RB12 of the Red Bull Racing team, Mexican Sergio Pérez won third and fifth places, respectively.

With a time difference of 15 hours compared to Mexico, the cars took to the track during the early hours of this Friday, April 8. Outside the Austrian and Italian teams, Alpine was the most regular with Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon in the first places.

“It's been quite a challenge. We made some changes for this afternoon that we need to analyze. Some things aren't working as expected, so it's been a tough day in terms of mileage. But I think we have very good data for tonight. There is a lot to work on, to try to understand the direction we have taken,” said the Mexican at the end of the activities on the first day of the Australian Grand Prix.

The third, and final, free practice will take place at 22:00 this Friday (13:00 on Saturday in Australia), while qualifying will be three hours later. Finally, the race will start at 00:00 hours on Sunday the 10th of April. Checo is currently ranked seventh in the World Drivers' Championship standings with 12 points. So far this season, the Mexican had a retreat in Bahrain and fourth place in Saudi Arabia.
