A new Formula 1 season began and after the first two races of the season, it was confirmed that the rhythm of Red Bull Racing is again to compete for the first places, so from Mexico the faith of Sergio Pérez fans was reborn to see him at the top of the podium on several occasions this year.
The first big opportunity came at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, where Checo set the pace in the standings and took the first pole position of his career, which increased the chances of victory, especially if he managed to maintain his position at the start.
Because he was going to start above teammate Max Verstappen, a sector of fans began to wonder if there would be any decision by the team to cede the position to the Dutchman, especially since he was the emblem of the team, current world champion and highest paid driver in the category.

The answer to this question was the team's senior advisor, Helmut Marko, who was questioned by Christian Nimmervoll for the German site Formel1, where he stated that prior to the Saudi Arabian GP the team decided whether any kind of decision would be made if they were stuck at any time.
For this reason, if Sergio Pérez were to have Max Verstappen behind, the two would have had to fight for the position freely, something that has not happened since the Mexican landed in the Austrian team, both because of the rhythm of the Dutch last year, and because of the intense fight he had with Lewis Hamilton.

Finally this fight could not take place in Jeddah, because after 15 formidable laps by Checo Pérez, an unfortunate safety car after entering the pits took the tip and relegated it to fourth place, where it could not move in the rest of the Grand Prix.
Because Max Verstappen was able to beat Leclerc in the final stretch of the Saudi Arabian GP, the chance that he would meet Perez on the track was high, one that would have sparked due to Marko's statements, as they would have competed without restrictions to see who was ahead in the overall standings.
“Checo is more satisfied with the car and now he knows the team. We are very happy about this development,” added the Red Bull advisor, who saw in the front row the capacity jump that Sergio had in the standings, his great slope to be able to compete for victories.

Sergio Perez's third victory in Formula 1 will have to wait, but after Helmut Marko's insinuations, he will be able to compete against Max Verstappen in the first part of the season, as long as they don't take off in terms of points.
For this reason, it will be crucial for Tapatio not to lose ground with the leaders and get closer in the qualifying of the World Drivers' Championship, because if they maintain the ability to qualify first in the rest of the year, they will have the opportunity to fight the championship inch by inch with Verstappen, Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, with the possibility of Mercedes joining at some point in the season.
