The remake of The Prince of Rap, a series that starred Will Smith, is called Bel-Air and is produced by the original actor of the sitcom. Originally made for Peacock TV, fiction will come to Latin America through Star+. With 10 episodes, the most updated fiction in tone and time, it arrives on the platform on April 27 but not as a sitcom, but as a drama of one hour per chapter. We tell you all the details of the production.

Created by Andy and Susan Borowitz, television fiction aired its first episode on September 10, 1990 with Will Smith as the protagonist and a historic cast of actors people of African descent. It became one of the most watched television programs in the United States with six airing seasons and 148 episodes that, in addition, catapulted to fame the actor who won the Oscar this year for his role in King Richard. The story was based on the life of music representative Benny Medina, who, together with his partner, Jeff Pollack, decided to sell it for the small screen. It became a classic that reached 2022 in drama format.

“Set in today's United States, the series offers an unprecedented and dramatic look at Will's life-changing journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to Bel-Air's private mansions. After leaving behind the only home he has known throughout his life to take advantage of a second chance in an unknown place, Will discovers that his life ends upside down as he faces new challenges and prejudices in a world of wealth and aspirations,” says the synopsis of the series.

The series stars Jabari Banks, actor who will succeed Will Smith, but with a proposal that is more original and far from comedy. Now the focus is to narrate the life of this young man in modernity with today's social problems, but with the answers of a boy very similar to the prince of the original rap. Despite looking very different, it is expected that it will retain part of the essence of the remembered comedy, since Smith himself is involved in the project as executive producer.

In addition to Jabari Banks, the cast includes Adrian Holmes, Cassandra Freeman, Olly Sholotan, Akira Akbar, Jimmy Akingbola and Jordan L. Jones, playing the roles of the main characters of the Banks family. The reboot of The Prince of Bel-Air, today called Bel-Air, will have two seasons of about an hour.

The first season of Bel-Air debuts on April 27 on Star+.
