Bogotá Mayor's Office offers reward for those responsible for the death Miller Stiven Falla

The mayor of the capital, Claudia López, announced that investigations are already being carried out to determine the whereabouts of the murderers of children under the age of 15

The murder of 15-year-old soccer player Miller Stiven Falla in the city of Bogotá has generated consternation throughout the country. The athlete was part of Andino FC, a subsidiary of América de Cali and lost his life last Saturday 2 April.

The regrettable event occurred in the Patio Bonito neighborhood, in the town of Kennedy in the capital of the Republic when he was approached by two armed men to steal his cell phone. At the time of the assault, Miller Stiven was in the company of two friends from school.

According to the victim's father's statements to City TV and Caracol News, his son did not resist the moment of the robbery, so he doesn't understand the robbers' reaction to taking Miller Stiven's life.

After the robbery, the minor was immediately transferred to the Western Clinic where they tried to save his life, but he arrived without vital signs.

Through her official Twitter account, the mayor of Bogotá stated that corresponding investigations are already being carried out to determine the whereabouts of those responsible for the murder of Miller Stiven Falla, and also announced that the district will offer a reward of more than 20 million pesos for people to provide information that with the capture of criminals.

“Allegedly foreign criminals, according to witnesses, murdered 15-year-old Miller Falla, who was not even resisting the theft of his cell phone. We offer a $20 million reward to bring these criminals to justice. To his family all our solidarity”.

This fact has generated rejection by citizens as well as several sectors of public opinion that call for justice for the death of Miller Stiven Falla. One of them was the Secretary of Security, Coexistence and Justice, Aníbal Fernández via Twitter.

“Total rejection and strong condemnation of this regrettable and painful homicide. We will enforce the public safety law. Bogotá Police Authorities and Prosecutor's Office are moving forward with the investigation. Up to $20 million pesos for information reward.”

In addition, América de Cali also spoke on their social networks about the death of the young promise of Colombian professional football.

“We regret the sensitive passing of Miller Stiven Falla, player of our Andino FC Franchise. We express our solidarity and sincerest condolences to their families at this difficult time.”

For his part, the Minister of Defense, Diego Molano, lamented the murder of Miller Stiven Falla and assured that this type of crime will be punishable by severe penalties.

Despite the reduction in recent years, more than 3,300 cell phone thefts are reported daily in Colombia, according to information from the National Police. The figures from the authorities indicate that in 2021 there were 48,055 complaints of theft, while in 2019 164,933 were filed.

The departments most affected by cell phone theft were Cundinamarca, with 63,458, Antioquia, with 18,925; Valle del Cauca, with 14,472; Santander, with 6,982 and Atlántico, with 5,924.
