Italy confiscated a luxury yacht, valued at around 3.3 million euros, within the framework of the sanctions decreed by the European Union against Russian oligarchs for the invasion of Ukraine, official sources reported this Saturday.

Last night Customs agents seized the boat “New Vogue”, a yacht about 30 meters long moored in the tourist port of Imperia-Porto Maurizio (northwest) and belonging to Russian citizens, the Coast Guard said, without revealing the names of the owners.

“The seizure was ordered by the Prosecutor's Office of the Imperia Court at the end of an intensive investigation by the judicial police that began in early March,” he explained in a statement.

This is a new seizure by the Italian authorities, who on 18 March confiscated a luxury villa in Sardinia valued at 105 million euros from Russian magnate Alexey Alexandrovits Mordaschov, who had previously also been requisitioned the mega yacht “Lady M”, also moored in the port of Imperia.

Otro magnate ruso afectado por las sanciones impuestas a Vladimir Putin y su gobierno

A few days earlier he blocked the largest sailing yacht in the world to Russian magnate Andrey Melnichenko when he was docked in the port of the city of Trieste (northeast).

Mordaschov, president of the Severstal metallurgical and energy conglomerate, was considered by Forbes magazine in 2021 the richest oligarch in Russia with a wealth of 29.1 billion euros, while billionaire Melnichenko is the founder of the MDB bank and has investments in the petrochemical sector.

The confiscations of the oligarchs in Italy began on March 5, when Mario Draghi's government seized assets worth 150 million euros, including assets, yachts and villas, including a 17th-century mansion in Tuscany, in the center of the country.

Just this week, Italy confiscated a car belonging to Alisher Usmanov, a Russian tycoon former shareholder of the English team Arsenal with investments in the metallurgy and telecommunications sectors, which is on the list of oligarchs sanctioned after the invasion of Ukraine for his ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Mercedes Maybach valued at about $670,000 is ready to withstand attacks by machine guns and explosives.

The car is surrounded by mystery. It is a “Mercedes Maybach S650 Guard VR10″, with registration number FN133Y, as reported by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. And it was confiscated in Sardinia. He was detained on 15 March and the detention will last at least six months, unless appeals are filed with the Lazio Regional Administrative Court (competent judicial body) in favor of Machina, the company owned by Pavillac of Bermuda, owned by Usmanov.
