The culture of the silleteros of Medellín reaches the United States. Hernán Soto Grajales from the Piedragorda village and Laura Atehortua from the El Placer village of Santa Elena are responsible for showing the world the cultural and environmental heritage of the Antioquia capital.
The silleteros traveled to Miami, United States, as part of the Flower Fair in that city to exalt the country's cultural heritage and as ambassadors of environmental sustainability and coexistence in diversity around the world.
As the first activity of the silleteros' trip to the United States, this Friday, April 1, there will be a cocktail and a parade with gastronomic shows, dance, art and music.
Silleteros' visit to the United States is part of an initiative that aims to bring this culture around the world
This trip and the activities that will take place in the North American country are in addition to the strategy 'The Silleteros Embrace the World', an initiative that seeks to highlight the symbols of work, effort and creativity that surround the silletero gesture, which encourages reflections on environmental sustainability and coexistence in the diversity around the world.
Thanks to this strategy, the silleteros in Medellín have had the opportunity to visit Madrid, Milan and Dubai over the past year.
“It is important to thank the Mayor's Office of Medellín, through the Secretariat of Citizen Culture, for the support they have given us to carry out this event. We, the silleteras, want to make known to the world the strength and love we have for our tradition. We wait for them to embrace them with our flowers, our colors,” said the saddle holder Laura Atehortua.
During this event in Miami, which will take place on April 1 and 2, the new city brand: Medellín, where everything flourishes will be presented for the first time on an international stage on an international stage. With this brand, the city seeks to attract investment, promote exports and boost tourism.
'Medellín, everything flourishes', is the winning brand of an open competition in which 31 proposals from the best creative agencies in the city participated. It was the citizens who had the final say in choosing the brand that will represent the capital of Antioquia on the national and international stages for the next ten years.
The Mayor's Office of Medellín highlighted that the participation of the silleteros in this international event was achieved thanks to the agreement of the municipal administration with the South Miami Commissioner, Josh Liebman. Likewise, it was supported by Asocolflores and the airline Viva Air.
