Chicago (USA), 24 Mar The “Kobe Bryant Estate”, the company that looks after Kobe Bryant's property and property after his death in 2020, announced Thursday a new sponsorship contract with Nike to produce basketball shoes, reported Vanessa Bryant, widow of the Los Angeles Lakers star. “We are happy to announce that our collaboration with Nike will continue! I am very proud of the fact that my husband's shoes are still the most used by players on the NBA courts and the requests for his shoes are still very high among fans around the world,” Vanessa Bryant wrote in a post on Instagram. The new agreement is for several years, although the exact duration was not specified, and was signed this Thursday after the previous contract expired on April 13, 2021 after a relationship that accompanied Kobe Bryant throughout his legendary NBA career. “Kobe Bryant means so much to us and not just as NBA fans, but beyond the sport. Its impact on the growth of sport, in particular to encourage women and young people to start playing remains one of its most important legacies,” said Nike CEO John Donahoe, in a statement collected by US media. “Together with Vanessa, we want to honor Kobe and (his daughter) Gigi by opening up a successful generation for the years to come,” he added. Nike will re-launch the eleven shoes that accompanied Kobe during his career and, in addition, six other models after his retirement, advance the US media, whose income will be partially returned to charitable foundations. It is estimated that 20% of NBA players have worn or continue to wear Kobe Bryant's shoes since the “Mamba” and his daughter Gigi died in January 2020 in a helicopter crash.
