After Sandra Cuevas, mayor of Cuauhtémoc, reached an agreement with the police officers assaulted after they reported her for abuse of authority, qualified theft and discrimination, the head of government Claudia Sheinbaum demanded on Thursday an apology from political leaders and legislators who assured that the accusation against Cuevas was for political persecution. He stressed that the apology would have to be offered to the people of Mexico City.

Shortly before entering the hearing, Cuevas claimed that it was an injustice and aggression of Claudia Sheinbaum as a woman on another woman. Upon leaving the judges of the Preventive Prison, the mayor accused the head of government that it was an “orchestrated montage” to remove her from the Cuauhtémoc mayor's office and thus Morena regained ground.

In a press conference, the president mentioned that it is not a personal matter, but they do have to apologize for their words, because today it was shown that it was not about politics, but about justice.

He also assured that the case is a sign of justice and that there is no one above the law, “First, it is a sign that there is justice. Second to all those who said that it was a matter of politicization, how good did you see them,; presidents of parties who said that the head of government was about to politicize, that how could that happen in Mexico City, because on the contrary, Mexico City has shown that no one is above the law. That is what the Prosecutor's Office shows, and that is what the court shows, regardless of their position and well there is the sample that it had nothing to do with politics but that in reality there were victims and that there was a crime that had been committed.”

A few days ago he declared that the prosecution was the one who was solving the case, “It is a matter of a criminal complaint that was filed with the prosecutor's office, with its autonomy, and the judiciary. That is where it is being solved, we are not related in any way on the subject, but simply the origin was the aggression against the police.”

Some of the militants who accused her were Mariana Gómez del Campo del PAN: “Good morning to everyone except Claudia Sheinbaum for getting the mayor out of the way in Cuauhtémoc,” she said in a tweet. On the other hand, Emilio Álvarez Icaza also commented in a tweet: “At the polls the citizens decided that Sandra Cuevas would be the holder of the Cuauhtémoc mayor's office. Less than six months later, Claudia Sheinbaum pursues her politically seeking to take away the mayor's office through judicial channels.”

Ricardo Monreal commented on this topic that “there is an excess, it seems to me that they abused this circumstance, never that I remember it happened in Mexico City, there is no precedent in the city, I am concerned about the rule of law”.

This morning Cuevas acknowledged the aggression as described by the Public Prosecutor's Office; the agreement reached consists of giving the victims economic reparation of 30,000 pesos to each of the police officers for the damage caused; a public apology and psychological treatment for six months aimed at managing anger and emotions. Once this has been done, the precautionary measures against you will be suspended.
