During the afternoon of March 23, there was a fire in the La Primavera forest, located in the municipality of Zapopan, in the state of Jalisco.
Likewise, the governor of the entity, Enrique Alfaro, posted on his social networks about the incident on Wednesday afternoon and reported that the matter was being addressed.
“At the moment a forest fire is being attended to in the La Primavera forest, in Zapopan. Low humidity, high temperatures and air have complicated this, but there are 5 helicopters and dozens of units and fighters from all three levels of government fighting fire.”
Later, the state president thanked the various authorities who fought to contain the fire: “200 women and men combatants, more than 60 units and 6 helicopters in the forest fire in the Bajío de las Milpillas area, in the La Primavera forest”.
Later, the Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office (FE) indicated through its official Twitter account that an investigation folder was opened against a detainee for the events.
Authorities reported that a man was arrested by elements of the Zapopan police for allegedly starting the fire.
The elements, who made a tour of the affected area, observed the presence of a male person who was setting fire to several mounds of dry leaves, which is why he was apprehended.
The captured suspect was identified as Juan “R” and was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP), who will determine his legal status within 48 hours established by law.
For its part, the Directorate of Environmental Crimes will initiate appropriate investigations in order to collect evidence of the probable responsibility of the detainee and to proceed in accordance with the law if so.
This is the second fire that ravages the forest in the Bajío de las Milpillas area, since in April 2021 several hectares of La Primavera were burned as the fire spread to the metropolitan area of Guadalajara and to more than 15 municipalities in Jalisco.
Similarly, a second suspect was arrested elsewhere in the state for crimes against the environment by causing a fire, located in the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga
They also reported that personnel of the Environmental Crimes Directorate of the State Prosecutor's Office carry out investigative work to clarify the causes that gave rise to the fire, where a person arrested is reported as allegedly responsible.
The arrest was carried out after elements of the Municipal Police carried out a prevention and surveillance tour on the way to La Cajilota, in the Valle de los Emperadores neighborhood, when they noticed a black cloud of smoke.
So they went to the area. There they spotted a 27-year-old man throwing tires into the fire. He was arrested and identified as José de Jesús C.
When inspected, they secured a lighter and a plastic canister with gasoline inside. The police requested command and leadership of the Public Ministry agent of the Directorate of Environmental Crimes, who will begin investigations in order to clarify the probable responsibility of José de Jesús C.
