Peru vs. Uruguay: the possible attack duo of 'La Celeste' that would start in a duel for Qatar 2022 Qualifiers

The 'bicolor' would have defined its starting eleven for the match in Montevideo, although for rival coach Diego Alonso, there would be a doubt in the offensive.

The Peruvian national team will hold a definitive commitment to the Uruguayan team this Thursday, March 24 as part of the 17th date of the South American Qualifiers. In fact, there is only one day left and the coaches of both teams are preparing to send the best they have since the starting whistle. In that sense, the coach 'charrúa', Diego Alonso, would have some doubt regarding the attacking pair that will seek to score the 'bicolor'.

To begin with, the coach of the local team would have already outlined what would be the starting eleven that would start against Peru. Although before all the Uruguayan players joined the concentration, he said the opposite: “I haven't yet defined the team one hundred percent, because I like to see it, I like to feel it, I like to see what happens in training, who understands it better, who best adapts to what we are going to ask for and that they have their chance until the last day to be able to fight for every position on the court.”

However, with the passing of days and training, Alonso would send the next starting eleven. Sergio Rochet would stop in the goal to replace a Fernando Muslera, who despite having been master and lord of that position for several years, comes from a complicated knee injury and has barely played a game this 2022. In the case of the defense, it would consist of Ronald Araújo as the right back, Mathias Olivera as the left back and the midfielders Diego Godin and Jose María Giménez. In the case of the midfield, it would be a quartet composed of Lucas Torreira as a brand steering wheel, followed by Rodrigo Bentancur and Federico Valverde more advanced, as well as a Facundo Pellistri who would be behind the strikers although more profiled for the right side with a changed leg. And here we stopped for a moment.

As mentioned above, Alonso would have a doubt regarding the attacking pair. And although it would be normal for Luis Suárez to play with Edinson Cavani, the current picture indicates that both have different realities. While the 'Gunslinger' is a player commonly used by Diego Simeone in the starting eleven of Atlético de Madrid, the 'Matador' has played random matches with Manchester United with the German Ralf Rangnick.

CURRENT COMPARISON BETWEEN SUÁREZ AND CAVANI

Now, the two started in Uruguay's last 4-1 win against Venezuela in Montevideo. In that match, the two were able to convert a goal each and remembered the great duo they have been forming in the last 10 years. But what would tip the balance would be the fact that Cavani has played just 8 games with his club this year and with just a few minutes, in which he scored only 1 goal and provided 1 assist. For his part, Suarez has played 13 matches, in which he has scored 3 goals and provided 1 assist. They are small numbers but they make a difference at the highest level.

POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT

The question that arises next is: if Edinson Cavani comes out of the starting eleven, who would replace him? The first option would be Darwin Núñez, a forward for Benfica from Portugal and who comes from a great presence in the Old Continent. At the moment, he has 11 matches this 2022, in which he has converted 8 goals, being important for his team, both in matches in the 'lusa' league and in the Champions League.

In addition, in total this season he has 20 goals and 2 assists under his belt, numbers that have caught the attention of the biggest clubs in Europe such as Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool of England, among others. For this reason, and due to the margin of improvement he has at the age of 22, they make him a player who would start against Peru.
