Panama will host the eliminated Honduras on Thursday, on the twelfth day of the Concacaf World Championship, with the sole objective of achieving a victory that will allow him to continue dreaming of qualifying directly to Catar-2022.

The duel, to be played at the Rommel Fernández stadium (01H00 GMT on Friday), in Panama City, is presented to the canaleros as a final.

A local victory and a stumbling block for Costa Rica, which hosts the leader Canada, would leave the Panamanians one step away from securing, at least, the repechage.

A win would also allow Panama to get closer to the positions that give direct access to the World Cup.

However, the Panamanian coach, the Spanish-Danish coach Thomas Christiansen, does not want confidence, even though Honduras will run without its main components.

“It is still a trap match, Honduras will come with young guys with enthusiasm, wanting to impress and have their place in the team. That is why we have to play a serious match, respecting the opponent, but from minute one we go out to win,” said Christiansen.

The Octagonal Concacaf award three direct tickets to Catar-2020 and the possibility of a play-off for the fourth place against the winner of the Oceania tie.

With three days to go, Canada, with 25 units, leads the octagonal and this Thursday can seal their qualification, followed by the United States and Mexico, with 21, Panama with 17, Costa Rica with 16. They are followed by El Salvador with 9 points, Jamaica with 7 and Honduras with 3.

The main Panamanian doubt to face the 'H' is on the left-back, where Eric Davis is out by sanction.

After facing Honduras, Panama, which aspires to play its second World Cup, will play away against the United States and close at home against Canada.

- 'Bolillo' Gómez returns to Panama -

For its part, Honduras arrives in Panama without any possibility of qualifying. The catrachos are the finalists of the world championship, where they do not yet know the victory and have only achieved three draws and eight defeats.

The morbid of the event will be its coach, the Colombian Hernán Darío Gómez, who returns to Panama after qualifying for the first time in the Russia-2018 World Cup for the first time.

The 'Bolillo' seeks to renew a catracha team whose last World Cup participation was in Brazil-2014.

In Panama, the coffee technician will not have his two figures, the points Alberth Elis and Anthony Lozano. Neither will captain and defender Maynor Figueroa be there, nor will the fliers Alfredo Mejía and Deiby Flores be there.

“We have brought players who have been with us for a short time, we want to look at different options to make an eleven for the match against Panama. Honduras is not at a good time, but we are going to be a team that has dignity and we can at least get results,” said the 'Bolillo'.
