The coordinator of the Citizen Movement (MC) band in the Senate of the Republic, Clemente Castañeda, welcomed Marco Antonio Gama Basarte, legislator for San Luis Potosí, this Monday, March 21, after he announced his departure from the National Action Party (PAN).

At a press conference, Castañeda Hoeflich recognized the expanist as a “defender of social causes” and therefore expressed his excitement and gratitude for accepting the invitation to join his political party, as he said that both have struggled to stop the initiatives of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) inside the venue of Paseo de la Reforma.

He also indicated that the call responded to a series of previous talks, as well as coincidences in favor of a “different future for San Luis (Potosí) and a different future for Mexico.”

“We see in Senator Marco Gama a man who has always maintained his vertical, who has been a faithful defender of the causes of the people, in whom we have many programmatic coincidences, who have had the opportunity to work in the Senate of the Republic,” said the MC coordinator.

The event was also attended by the national coordinator of Movimiento Ciudadano, Dante Delgado, who recognized Gama Basarte's career and stressed, like Castañeda, that there are many more coincidences than differences between the two political projects that today became one.

He also pointed out that the orange party aims to build, through a realignment of political forces, an electoral strategy that will result in the first or first President of the Republic coming from the institute in 2024.

Until a week ago, Marco Antonio Gama was serving as the vice-coordinator for internal policy of the parliamentary group for National Action; however, on March 19, he announced through his social networks that he would abandon the blue and white.

According to the message he shared, dedicated mainly to Potosina citizens, the now activist of the Citizen Movement denounced that his former political institute was “expropriated” by a “clique” that only uses it to supposedly satisfy his personal assets and interests.

“Unfortunately for Mexicans, the PAN has hopelessly lost its way and is further than ever from those eagerness they longed to serve as an instrument of society in favor of its best causes,” he wrote in a statement.

He also indicated that in his entity the panism has behaved as “a business consortium” which is only interested in seizing the leadership, forgetting the demands of citizens. This situation he pointed to as one of the reasons why the PAN “ceased to be competitive.

Faced with such statements, this Monday, Gama thanked Movimiento Ciudadano for the support that was granted to him after his departure from the PAN, for which he indicated, through several tweets, that this is the beginning of a new future for him and for his new institute.

“Thank you very much @dolivio_a National Coordinator of Priority Projects. Thank you for your presence and support! #ElFuturoEsNaranja,” the senator wrote on Twitter.
