After Juntos for Change gave his support to the Government in reaching an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and preventing Argentina from entering default, radical senator Alfredo Cornejo today referred to the internal one that exists in the Front of All, which almost threatens the legislative endorsement of the official project.
“They are in power and don't know what to do with power. They do serious damage to the country. In the Frente de Todos there are people who think totally different and who do not have the same orientation, as was seen with this IMF thing,” Cornejo slipped when interviewed on Radio Mitre.
Thanks to the fact that the opposition was able to overcome the internal differences between “tough” and “dialoguists” with the formula of supporting funding, but not the official economic program, the senator now asks that the government also manage to overcome its disagreements “for the good of the country.”
“I reject the lack of intellectual honesty of the ruling party. The message of the Frente de Todos is to hit Macri and hold the Cambiemos government responsible for all the problems of the country by hiding the internal differences that they have,” emphasized the radical leader.
And he asked: “What would have happened if Juntos decided to abstain or vote against it?” Immediately, Cornejo also issued a response: “The country would have fallen into default or the government should have drawn a decree of necessity and urgency.” Para questioned that “the Government made that circus to show that, for the first time, such a law passed through Congress”.
For the radical leader, “negotiation with the IMF does not solve any problem” and that what they did was “kick forward the payment of the debt because those maturities could not be paid”
The senator insisted that for Argentina to succeed “there must be great consensus on tax, tax, labor reform; but the government does not believe in these reforms and they are divided among them.”
In addition, he was particularly upset when the ruling party intends to blame former President Mauricio Macri for all the ills that the country is going through. “The failures of Argentina cannot be explained by the credit with the IMF or the only 4 years that Kirchnerism did not govern in the last 18 years,” he said.
In addition, he warned that “when Kirchnerism surrenders power, on December 10, 2023, Argentina will have ruled 16 of the last 20 years; and Argentina has not grown since 2010.”
“Argentina is stagnant and cannot be explained by the only 4 years that Kirchnerism did not rule. I'm not saying that Cambiemos was a virtuous government, but focusing on that is unfair and would not lead to real consequences,” he concluded.
In addition to the criticism made by Cornejo, Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero also referred this Sunday to the internal crisis of the Frente de Todos and said that “today it is going through a critical political moment”.
He acknowledged the internal differences between Alberto Fernández and Cristina Kirchner, called for these disagreements not to be transformed into a rupture, and stressed the need for all space leaders to seek “the mechanisms to resume dialogue.”
“To ignore that the Frente de Todos is going through a critical political moment today would be foolish,” said Cafiero in an opinion note published on the website El Rocket to the Moon.
In the article, he also stated: “The breakdown of our coalition would also imply a very great divorce of our political force (Peronism) with the reality that the inhabitants of our country live today.”
