Venezuela received a sixth batch of COVID-19 vaccines on Thursday consisting of “more than 4,800,000 doses” of the Covax system, which is coordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO), reported the Minister of Health, Magaly Gutiérrez.

“This time we are receiving in a sixth arrival of this mechanism, a little more than 4,800,000 doses. This will allow us to immunize our population in our reinforcement program that our President Nicolás Maduro Moros has announced that it is now every four months,” the minister said in statements to the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).

Although he did not detail which pharmaceutical company belong to the vaccines that arrived this Thursday, nor the type, he assured that “Venezuela has received more than 61 million doses” for the first time, second and booster.

He also highlighted that the Venezuelan regime maintains other mechanisms for acquiring vaccines such as international cooperation with Cuba, Russia and China so that “Venezuelans have access to free vaccines.”

In addition, he indicated that there are currently 19,000 vaccination points throughout the country, including 593 Comprehensive Community Health Areas (ASIC) and 400 new points of the Cuban medical mission, as well as itinerant inoculation points in pharmacies and shopping centers.

When asked about the vaccination figure in Venezuela, she said that in people over 18 years of age there are “a record number of 104% vaccinated people”, without explaining why the percentage exceeds the total adult population of the country by 4%.

He also said that 61% of the Venezuelan child population has been immunized and that they will do an “intensive” day in schools to increase the current percentage.

Gutiérrez called on the population to get vaccinated and to “not relax” prevention measures, to maintain the fight against COVID-19.

On January 17, the fifth batch of vaccines from the Covax system against COVID-19, consisting of 3.1 million doses, arrived in Venezuela.

“Here we are, again, receiving 3.1 million vaccines from the Covax mechanism. With this fifth installment, we reached more than 12 million vaccines, which is 100% of the first purchase of vaccines made by the country from the Covax mechanism,” Deputy Minister of Health Gerardo Briceño said in statements to VTV.

The deputy minister then indicated that these doses will be used for booster immunization, a process that began in the Caribbean country on January 3.
