Development Summit will bring together Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic and the United States

San Jose, 18 Mar A summit will bring together next Monday in San Jose the presidents of Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Panama, with senior officials from the United States and regional banks, in order to analyze the context of the region and seek actions for development, trade and the strengthening of democracy. This is the fourth summit of the Alliance for Development in Democracy (ADD), formed by Costa Rica, Panama and the Republic to address issues of the common political, trade and development agenda, which has also included migration issues. The Costa Rican Presidential House reported on Friday that the meeting will be attended by Presidents Carlos Alvarado (Costa Rica), Laurentino Cortizo (Panama) and Luis Abinader (Dominican Republic), who “will hold an intensive work agenda to examine the articulated responses to the challenges posed at the meetings held at the three previous summits”. “ADD is an effort led by Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic to strengthen democratic institutions, based on the shared values and related visions of the three countries,” explained the Costa Rican government. The United States will participate in the summit through the Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment, José W. Fernández; the Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian Nichols; and the Deputy Administrator of the USAID Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, Marcela Escobari. The official information of the meeting details that a working session will be held between the presidents and parallel meetings between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Finance of Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Panama. In addition, foreign ministers and trade ministers will hold dialogues with US officials. The finance ministers of Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic will meet with the president of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dante Mossi; with that of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Mauricio Claver-Carone; and with that of the Andean Development Corporation, Sergio Díaz. The agenda also includes an expanded session of the presidents of Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic with their Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Finance, the United States delegation, and the presidents of regional development banks and the private sector.
