Ricardo Monreal, leader of the Morena National Regeneration Movement (Morena) bench in the Senate of the Republic, expressed his support for Sandra Cuevas, the mayor of La Cuauhtémoc who was suspended from her political duties due to two complaints against her by two police officers in Mexico City.

This Tuesday, March 15, through a statement to the media, the also president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) of the House of Senators reiterated that Cuevas Nieves is her friend and that he does not deny his friends when they go through periods of misfortune.

“I don't have it in my mind to ever deny my friends and deny the people I care about,” the legislator declared when asked about the greetings he sent to the flagship mayor of the coalition Va por México. He also reiterated that, in his opinion, she is a woman of integrity and dignity to whom he expressed his solidarity.

“I am not one to hide their friendship when they are in disgrace,” he reiterated. In addition, he said that it is in such situations that friends are met. Regarding the suspension of office, the senator described this act as an abuse with political overtones and pointed out that elected officials should only be deposed by electoral means and not by “a judicial coup”.

“Never, as far as I recall, had that happened in Mexico City. There is no precedent in CDMX and I am concerned about the rule of law”
