Carlos izquierdoz was ruled out for Sunday's Superclassic due to a broken left foot suffered in the last match against Estudiantes in La Plata. This is a sensible loss for the cast of Sebastian Battaglia, ahead of the duel against River Plate at Monumental, to be played next Sunday for the 7th date of the Professional League Cup.

The club's Medical Department reported in a statement that the central marker “has a fracture of the base of the fifth metatersal bone of the left foot”, so it will have to be “surgically operated on in the next few hours”. The estimated time for his rehabilitation is 3-4 months, which implies that the rest of the competition will be lost.

Although the idea of Boca Juniors was for Cali to be operated on the same Monday, they did not arrive in time with the preparation and it was passed on to this Tuesday. However, another setback caused the surgery to be performed this afternoon at Dr. Batista's office in San Isidro to be postponed again.

As the inputs are imported and so far they have not arrived, the intervention was postponed, sources close to the xeneize club told Infobae. These surgical screws are needed to weld the fractured bone.

Izquierdoz was injured after 22 minutes of play at Estadio UNO in La Plata in Boca's 1-0 victory over Estudiantes, leader of Zone A. With difficulty stepping on, he left his place in the team to Peruvian defender Carlos Zambrano.

The next day, captain xeneize arrived with crutches and an orthopedic boot to the clinic in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Barracas where studies were carried out to determine the severity of the injury, which was already presumed complex by the impression given by the footballer himself.

“I broke everything,” he replied eloquently to the chroniclers as he retired from the medical center, accompanied by his wife.

In the next few days it will be known if DT Sebastián Battaglia keeps the player in Peru's team or is looking for another variant to visit River in Núñez. In this position, as alternatives, defenders Gastón Ávila and Nicolás Figal are presented.

The forced absence of Izquierdoz will not impact the team for the Copa Libertadores, as the defender must fulfill a four-game sanction imposed by Conmebol due to the incidents in the match that Atlético Mineiro of Brazil, last year. The premiere of Boca in the group stage of the highest South American club competition will take place the week of April 6.

Beyond this last victory and good performance against Estudiantes, especially in the first half, the series of injuries of key players worry the coaching staff for the assembly of the team. The result and the good work of several players, especially Guillermo Pol Fernández as the central steering wheel, brought the tranquility and peace that the squad and coach needed.

Now the focus is on recovering the rest of the injured: Darío Benedetto, Oscar Romero and Diego González, the latter with less chance of being able to play. That will be the theme of the “Boca World” in the preview of the superclassic.

Asked about their situation after the victory in La Plata, Bataglia barely answered: “In the week, when they return to training, we will see how they are doing”. The squad returned to practice this Tuesday at the Ezeiza estate, where it will work until Friday, since on Saturday it will do it at the Pedro Pompilio complex and then remain concentrated.

Pipa Benedetto, who has a muscle injury in his right leg that was never reported with an official medical report, missed the last two games to Huracán and Estudiantes and according to his relatives he will play the Superclassic yes or yes. According to what could be seen in practice, it was demanded together with Oscar Romero and both responded satisfactorily.

Last week a video was shown with the striker performing his first field exercises with the kinesiologist Leonardo Betchakian. For his part, the Paraguayan, the last reinforcement of this semester, did not play against Pincha for having presented a nuisance on his right hamstring on Friday.

The former Racing and San Lorenzo came from playing two games in four days, against Central Córdoba de Rosario and Huracán, after a long stop with three games in six months since their departure from Boedo. There was also no official report on the state of the Paraguayan, who was not called up for the match with Estudiantes out of caution. Battaglia's intention is to count it, at least, for the alternate bank.

As for Diego Gonzalez, who could be an ideal companion for Pol Fernández in the middle, he continues to recover from a tear in his right hamstring, which he suffered on February 28. The Octopus is the least likely to arrive in optimal physical condition.

Boca will visit River next Sunday from 19.00 for the seventh round of the Professional League Cup.
