(Update the death of producer Oleksandra Kuvshinova) Washington, 15 Mar Cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski and producer Oleksandra Kuvshinova, both of the US network Fox News, died on Tuesday in an attack by Russian forces during coverage of the Ukrainian war, where his partner, Benjamin Hall, was also injured. “It is with great sadness and regret that we share the news of the death this morning of our beloved cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski. Pierre died in Horenka, just outside Kiev,” Suzanne Scott, CEO of the network, said in a statement. Scott explained that the team of reporters, who had been in Ukraine since February, was gathering information on Monday when their vehicle was shot. Zakrzewski, 55, was a veteran war reporter who had covered multiple warfare conflicts, including Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. “His passion and talent as a journalist were unmatched (...) Today is a heartbreaking day for Fox News and all the reporters who risk their lives to break the news,” Scott stressed. Soon after, Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to Ukraine's interior minister, confirmed to local media that 24-year-old Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra Kuvshinova, who works as a producer for Fox, also died from artillery fire by Russian forces. Hall, for his part, remains hospitalized in Ukraine, although the seriousness of his injuries has not been specified. With Zakrzewski and Kuvshinova, there are already confirmed at least 5 journalists killed in the Ukrainian conflict. The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Ukrainian Parliament, Liudmyla Denisova, said on Tuesday that three other reporters have been killed since the beginning of the conflict and held Russian troops responsible. Those three deceased are Ukrainian military correspondent Viktor Dudar (killed during fighting near Mikolaiv), cameraman for Ukrainian live television channel Yevhen Sakun (killed during missile attacks in Kiev) and American documentary journalist Brent Renaud (killed at a checkpoint in Irpin, Kiev region).
