The brand-new President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, accepted the invitation of Argentine President Alberto Fernández, who participated in the ceremony of his assumption last Friday. Both held a bilateral meeting in which they agreed to activate cooperation mechanisms and Fernández invited Boric to make Argentina his first official visit.
“I invited him to make his first official trip to Argentina on April 5,” said Alberto Fernández, explaining that “we agreed to reactivate bilateral high-level integration mechanisms, stopped by the pandemic.”
The Argentine president also proposed to “provide gas to their country” and both pledged to “deepen cooperation on human rights, gender equality, youth and minorities and care for the environment.”
Boric confirmed on Monday, in dialogue with the international press, that his first international trip will be Argentina. The idea is that it is more than symbolic but that it translates into concrete collaboration, for example in facilitating the passage to borders, investments. Not only do we have a meeting that has to do with money, investment or social change, but also with culture, which is something we share with Argentina and we have to learn a lot from each other.”
He added that “and I also asked President Fernández to consider the possibility that it is not only in Buenos Aires but also includes provinces from the interior, we are trying to make a presence elsewhere not only in classic institutional places.”
He then talked about what he talked about with different representatives from Latin America. “We spoke with different presidents of the region who were in the change of command and it is necessary and important for Latin America to have a voice in the world again, we are going to humbly contribute in that direction, but for the same reason and in my opinion, we need to stop creating organizations based on the ideological affinities of the leaders of duty, in that sense Prosur, Unasur and well the series of figures that are known that are grouped only by the affinities, Grupo de Lima. I think they have shown that they do not serve to unite us or to advance integration.”

Later, at the meeting he was asked about the migration crisis that the country is experiencing. “We have been following with great attention what the European Union has been doing, in particular with regard to the crisis resulting from the war. We know that this is the largest world exodus right now and how it was implemented with civilians who are scared. We have also asked for advice from different foreign leaders, I have spoken with several from Europe. The bottom line and what I talked about initially, and what we are meeting for the first half of the year to be able to see more details, is that a migration crisis, in this case with more than six million people who have migrated, the burden of that cannot fall on one or a group of countries, but we have to express Latin American solidarity. and there all the countries of the region, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, have a role that they must play. By the way, I'm not the one to impose something on a country what it should do.”

And that “it is something that we could all win, both by countries, by deepening cooperation, as well as migrants who do so in a situation of great despair and that often, overburdening themselves in a single country must face very difficult situations. So that is the basic idea that we want to discuss in order to strengthen the ties of Latin American integration.”
