Athletic Bilbao fell to a home defeat at the hands of R Madrid at San Mames Stadium on Wednesday. Athletic Bilbao were looking to continue their run, following a 3-2 victory against Real Betis. RMA are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. As the table looks today, Athletic Bilbao are currently 10th with 24 points from 21 matches, while RMA sit in 1st, with 46 points from 21.

Los Blancos started the game well, thanks to an early goal from Karim Benzema in the 4th minute. RMA looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a 2nd effort from Karim Benzema 7 minutes into the game to establish a 2-0. The Lions in turn, then responded, at 10 minutes increasing their lead with an effort from Oihan Sancet to see out the first half 1-2. Both teams unable to deliver anything further, the score remained at 2-1 at full time.

For Athletic Bilbao, Nicholas Williams, Inigo Lekue, Raul Garcia and Nicolas Serrano, came on for Oier Zarraga, Mikel Balenziaga, Oihan Sancet and Iker Muniain. RMA replaced Mariano Diaz, Peter Gonzalez and Luka Jovic with Vinicius Junior, Eden Hazard and Karim Benzema.
