Qatar will play host and compete in the FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history

The Gulf nation of Qatar rolled out the red carpet for over 2,000 football dignitaries, as the draw for the 2022 FIFA World Cup was held Friday in Doha.

Hosted by actor Idris Elba, the show featured the launch of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 official soundtrack, as well as the unveiling of the official mascot La’eeb.

This is the first time the FIFA World Cup is being held in the Middle East, and the host nation will be making their playing debut.

Twenty-nine of the 32 spots in the FIFA World Cup have been filled, with the other three to be determined in June.

Qatar will open the tournament against Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor on November 21. The defending champions France will begin their title defense against either Australia, the United Arab Emirates or Peru on November 22. Denmark and Tunisia are also in their group.

The top-ranked country in the FIFA World Rankings is Brazil who heads Group G along with Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup begins November 21 and the final is December 18.
