The Torino 2006 Olympic Torch Relay makes its way to the seaside towns of western Italy early this week, as the flame travels towards the Mediterranean.

On Monday, the relay left Perugia, traveling along the Umbra-Tuscan Appenine, stopping in Montepulciano, Montalcino, Grosseto, and concluding the day in Siena. A total of 128 torchbearers will participate, including Italian footballer Enrico Chiesa, former F1 driver Alessandro Nannini, and windsurfer Alessandra Sensini.

Tomorrow, the torch will overlook the Mediterranean Sea. The route will leave Siena, and pass through Volterra, Rosignano Marittimo, and Livorno. The flame will reach its final destination by traveling across the canals on Livorno boats. 154 torchbearers will be on hand, including cyclist Paolo Bettini and soccer player Cristiano Lucarelli.

Through the first weekend of the torch relay, The Olympic flame has made stops in Rome and Rieti. In total, the torch relay will take 64 days, traveling over 7,000 miles before ending in Turin on Feb. 10.
