Double Olympic champion and 2013 winner Laura Trott (GBR) will go head-to-head with Georgia Bronzini (ITA), the 2014 champion, in what’s set to be a fiercely contested and fast-paced Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix around St James’s Park on Saturday 1 August.
Trott will be supported by five members of her Matrix Fitness team and is anticipating a great race.
"I’m riding the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix again this year and I’m really looking forward to it," said Trott. "It’s always such a great event and my ambition, as ever, is to go out and win it. Every race I compete in I want to win so I’d like to think that I can do that again at Prudential RideLondon."
Dani King (GBR), Bronzini’s Wiggle Honda teammate and Olympic gold medallist, will be hoping for a strong ride in front of home crowds but with a field that contains some of the world’s best female riders the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix is set to be a hard-fought race.
German time trial champion Lisa Brennauer (GER) is another hot favourite for a podium place. 2014 UCI world time trial champion and currently second in the UCI world rankings, she won the Aviva Women’s Tour last month.
The vastly experienced Emma Johansson (SWE), who recently bagged her 12th national title, is also likely to feature at the front of the peloton with her ORICA-AIS team. She is currently third in the UCI world rankings.
Other British riders are likely to be prominent in the race and one to watch will be Kati Archibald (Pearl Izumi Sports Tours International). The GB track rider won the 2015 London Nocturne and has the potential to break away from the group.
The women’s race begins at 18:00 and will be televised live on BBC2. The Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix programme of races begins at 17:00 with the 10th Brompton World Championship Final and concludes with races for youth girls and boys after the women’s race.
All the criterium races at the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix will follow a fast, flat 1.3-mile loop around St James’s Park. The stunning route will see riders start on The Mall before racing towards Buckingham Palace, through two tight turns onto Birdcage Walk before taking a 90-degree left-hand turn into Horse Guards Road. The final left turn at the end of Horse Guards Road brings them back onto The Mall for a spectacular finish facing Buckingham Palace.
The Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix is the second event of Prudential RideLondon, the world’s greatest festival of cycling. More than 95,000 riders will participate in the five events over the weekend of 1-2 August.
An extensive communications campaign is planned to help businesses and the public plan ahead and get around on the day. This included a leaflet drop this month to 1 million+ residents and businesses along the route, drop-in sessions for local people and community access plans.
