The Olympic Flame was carried by sleigh with Santa Claus in Chuvashia on Friday.
More than 160 people carried the flame in the capital Cheboksary, including five Olympic medalists. As the torch approached the Cheboksary’s Red Square, torchbearers rode on Santa’s sleigh accompanied by mounted guards.
Vladimir Voronkov, gold medalist in the 1972 Winter Olympics, lit the Olympic Cauldron in Cheboksary’s Olympic Stadium ending the relay.
Cheboksary will host the 2015 European Athletics Team Championships Super League.
Saturday, the flame will travel to Yoshkar-Ola before taking a day off on December 29.
Yoshkar-Ola is the capital of the Mari El Republic in Russia and is located 750 miles east of Moscow.
Altogether, 14,000 runners will carry the torch across a distance of 38,525 miles. The flame is touring 83 towns and cities before heading back into European Russia, and ultimately Sochi, for the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 7.
