
The Sochi Olympic flame traveled485 miles south from Tomsk tothe city ofGorno-Altaysk on Monday.More than 60 torchbearers participated in this leg of the relay.
Gorno-Altaysk is the capital of theAltai Republic in southwest Russia.The Altai Republic is currently constructing the"Altai Princess museum."The main exhibit centers on the mummy of a princess found in the ancient plateau of Ukok.
On Tuesday, the torch relay heads approximately 161 miles northwest fromGorno-Altaysk toBarnaul. Students in Barnaul have decorated the windows of a local art museum with graffiti to celebrate the torch relay. The painting is entitled"On the Path of the Olympic Flame."
Over 200 torchbearers will carry the flame throughBarnaul, including Russian actress/singerVictoria Galtseva.Olympic long jumperTatyana Kotova and Olympic speedskater Sergey Klevchenyaare both natives of Barnual.
Overall, 14,000 runners will carry the torch across a total distance of 38,525 miles. The flame is touring 83 towns and cities before heading back into European Russia, and ultimately Sochi, for the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 7.
