Sochi 2014 Live Sites brought together thousands of spectators during the London 2012 Closing Ceremony

The Closing Ceremony of the XXX Summer Olympic Games in London saw thousands of spectators gather at Sochi 2014 Live Sites across 16 Russian cities. Olympians also watched the ceremony with fans on huge open air screens. In Omsk, the Closing Ceremony was watched by a participant of the London 2012 Olympic Games, Vyacheslav Sinkevich, whilst in Ekaterinburg, Sydney bronze medal winner, Olga Kotlyarova also watched the Closing Ceremony. The Russian judo team caught the attention of fans when gold medalists Arsen Galstyan, Mansur Isaev and Tagir Khaibulaev, visited the site in Sochi on August 10th.

Seven thousand people, including the Deputy Mayor, Anatoly Rykov and Deputy Head of the city, Aleksandr Karandin, gathered at the Sochi Live Site located in the most popular area of the resort, the square by the South pier.

The final day of the London 2012 Games began with an Olympic Induction and a flashmob "We are different, we are together". Later that evening, spectators were presented with a cultural program from the Marathon of the Russian regions where guests were entertained with performances from the state dance ensemble "Cossacks of Russia", vocal choir ensemble "Voronezh girls", honored artist Aleksandr Shendrik, as well as the song and dance ensemble "Islamey" from Adygea. Mitya Fomin headlined the festival alongside DJ Pacha. The festival ended with a grand firework display.

Fifteen thousand Olympic fans gathered on the Cathedral Square in Omsk and enjoyed an "Orange football" streetball tournament, performances from Omsk cheerleader teams and gymnasts, dance flashmob and a performance from popular group, Secret Service.

In Ekaterinburg, the Closing Ceremony at the Sochi 2014 Live Site was watched by approximately four thousand people. Before the start of the opening ceremony visitors were able to enjoy a big concert.

In other cities involved in the project, large-scale events were held with the participation of officials and local artistic groups.

During the Closing Ceremony, the Head of the London Olympic Organizing Committee, Sebastian Coe, emphasized that London didn't only light the flame, it lit up the world. He also noted that the city, having received the right to host the Games for the third time, was worthy of that trust. The Head of the IOC, Jacques Rogge called the London 2012 Olympics "happy and glorious" and hoped it will inspire generations to come.

President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Dmitry Chernyshenko, said:

"We opened the Sochi 2014 Live Sites well ahead of the Sochi 2014 Games, to give Russian citizens the opportunity to enjoy the events and atmosphere of the Games. Hope that the energy and support shown by thousands of people at 16 Live Sites across Russia helped our Olympic team bring home 82 medals".

The Closing Ceremony of the London Games was the last Olympic Ceremony before the opening of the Games in Sochi on February 7th 2014.
