(ATR) The skyline of Chicago is featured in the new logo for the city's bid to become the nominee for the 2016 Olympics from the U.S.
The torch-like design was unveiled Thursday.
Chicago is the first to come up with a graphic design among the three cities hoping for the U.S. nomination. Los Angeles and San Francisco are the two other contenders.
The design in the shape of a torch places a composite of the Chicago skyline as the flame. The blue on the handle of the torch symbolizes Lake Michigan and the green is representing the parks of the city.
VSA Partners, one of Chicago's premier design and branding firms, produced the new logo.
The logo unveiling comes as Chicago Mayor Richard Daley prepares to head to Athens next week for a look at the city's post-Games situation.
He'll be accompanied by Patrick Ryan, the AON insurance company chairman who leads the Chicago bid committee.
Following Athens, Daley and Ryan will go to London for meetings with leaders of London 2012.
Daley visited Beijing in July for a look at Olympic preparations.
This week Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa traveled to Beijing to inspect the city and to talk with leaders of the Games.
