Organizers of the Olympic Council of Asia’s 8th Asian Winter Games in Sapporo, Japan, next February have extended the deadline for media accreditation.

The new deadline for media to apply for accreditation to cover the Asian Winter Games Sapporo 2017 is Friday, November 11.

The original deadline was Monday, October 31, but the recent decision to allow winter sports athletes from Oceania National Olympic Committees to participate as guest athletes in Sapporo has prompted the media accreditation deadline extension.

The new deadline, however, applies to all media, not just from Oceania NOCs.

Media within the OCA’s 45 NOCs are reminded, however, that old User ID and Password information distributed by organizing committee SAWGOC to NOCs, media organisations and individuals will become invalid on Monday, October 31 (after 11.59pm Japan time).

Any NOCs wanting to register new media from within their own territory will have to contact SAWGOC to receive a new User ID and Password for new registrations from November 1 to the deadline on November 11.

Applications received after November 11 will not be accepted due to reasons for the issuance of entry visas by the Japanese Government.

The 8th AWG will run from February 19-26, 2017, with five sports, 11 disciplines and 64 events at 12 competition venues - 11 of them in Sapporo and the speed skating at Obihiro, some 200km from Sapporo.

Athletes from Oceania NOCs will be allowed to enter as guest athletes in individual events only, not team sports, and will not be eligible to win medals.
