(ATR) PASO is wrapping up its first evaluation of Lima 2019 preparations since Carlos Neuhaus took over as president of the Pan Am Games organizing committee.

President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee Jose Quiñones tells Around the Rings the new leader demonstrated ability and leadership and that the PASO coordination commission was pleased with preparations during the four-day visit.

The commission visit coincided with the 1,000 days to go mark until the 2019 Pan American Games on Oct. 29. Lima 2019 took PASO leaders such as president Julio Maglione and vice president Ivar Sisniega to works for the games including the Andrés Avelino Cáceres Sports Complex that will stage track and field events and renovations at the Lima Regattas Club that will stage rowing.

Lima 2019 and the Peruvian Olympic Committee staged the 1,000 days to go event at the Flor de Amancaes Park in between venue visits. Construction at the park was recently finished with several practice facilities for basketball, swimming, handball and other sports incorporated into the design.

"It is an honor and a great challenge to pursue the Pan American Games Lima 2019, but this would not be possible if we did not have the support of our entire city," Neuhaus said at the event.

The PASO executive committee met all day on Oct. 30 at the Westin hotel which hosted the coordination commission and PASO leadership throughout the visit. The commission visit concludes on Oct. 31.

Quiñones says that PASO has yet to decide when the next evaluation of Lima will be and that another commission trip could happen early in 2017.
