Leading information technology company Cisco has been named the Official Network Infrastructure Supporter for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Cisco will supply highly secure and robust network infrastructure for the Games, which will be crucial to the enabling and connection of data, voice and video devices.

Glasgow 2014 will feature up to 15,000 volunteers and over 1,000 staff supporting the 6,500 athletes and officials from the 71 nations and territories of the Commonwealth to Scotland next year.

To keep the Games connected, Cisco will provide a solution consisting of an impressive 2,300 telephones, over 450 switches and routers, nearly 400 wireless access points, digital media players, along with a number of load balancers, which distribute data, and firewalls.

The company, which operates throughout the UK and across the globe and employs around 150 people in Scotland, will work with Glasgow 2014 over the next 13 months to underpin key methods of communication for the successful delivery of the Games.

As part of the deal, Cisco will also sponsor Team England, Team Northern Ireland, Team Scotland and Team Wales.
