L’haltérophilie n’avait pas besoin d’une telle publicité. Plombée par les affaires de dopage, la discipline doit faire face depuis dimanche 5 janvier à un nouveau scandale. Il touche sa fédération internationale (IWF). Avec, dans l’un des rôles principaux, son président depuis vingt ans, le Hongrois Tamas Ajan (photo ci-dessous).

La chaîne de télévision allemande ARD, après avoir révélé le dopage d’état en Russie à l’époque des Jeux d’hiver de Sotchi, a mené l’enquête dans le milieu de l’haltérophilie. Le résultat, un documentaire diffusé dimanche 5 janvier, intitulé « Secret Doping – the Lord of the Lifters », laisse perplexe.

Premier dossier, le plus attendu : le dopage. Pas de grande surprise, mais la confirmation d’un système rogné jusqu’à l’os par la tricherie et les arrangements.

L’équipe d’enquêteurs de l’ARD a épluché 16 000 contrôles antidopage sur une période de 10 ans, jusqu’en 2018. Résultat : sur 453 médaillés mondiaux et olympiques entre 2008 et 2017, près de la moitié (204) n’ont pas subi un seul test hors compétition, au cours de l’année où ces athlètes sont montés sur le podium.
