These days, the Danish national handball team for men is fighting for medals at the 22nd Men’s Handball World Championship 2011 in Malmö. For both the players and organisers of this large event, years of preparation culminate within the next couple of weeks. To learn from the Swedish hosts local representatives from as many as six different Danish event cities are travelling to Malmö.
Sport Event Denmark, the Danish national sports event organisation, is an important partner when host cities and sports federations in Denmark team up to bid for and stage major international sports events on Danish soil.
Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark explains: "The Men’s Handball European Championship 2014 is a vital event for Denmark to host, especially because handball is an Olympic sport and the Danish team stands a good chance of taking medals. Though there are three years till the Men’s Handball European Championship 2014 we are already teaming up. A study trip at the greatest handball event of them all, the Men’s Handball World Championship, gives us the opportunity to pick-up invaluable experience and good ideas to build on, not only in terms of staging handball events but also other sports events.
Already this year, the City of Herning, the City of Aarhus and the City of Aalborg are hosting the UEFA European Under-21 Championship. Likewise, the City of Copenhagen is hosting the UCI Road World Championships. But also the City of Ballerup has great experience of hosting sports events, among others major UCI track events and, in addition, the City of Odense is staging the Denmark Open Premier Super Series badminton tournament 2011".
