CHICAGO (July 23, 2009) In an effort to move forward with the redevelopment of the Michael Reese Hospital property the proposed site of Chicago 2016s Olympic Village the Public Building Commissions (PBC) Board of Commissioners announced the award of two additional contracts for the demolition of nearly all of the structures on the property.
On June 12, the PBC issued bid documents for the demolition of four groups of buildings consisting of a total of 24 structures on the Michael Reese Hospital campus. Bids were required to be submitted to the PBC by July 8.
Since the City of Chicago purchased the former Michael Reese Hospital property, $12.7 million in contracts have been awarded with approximately 50 percent of these contract dollars being committed to minority, disability and women-owned businesses.
