
(ATR)Birmingham tellsAround the Ringsit is ready to become the first U.S. city to host the World Games since 1981. The Alabama city is bidding for the 2021 World Games alongside Lima, Peru and Ufa, Russia.
Edgar Welden, chairman of Birmingham's bid committee; David Benck, corporate counsel at Hibbett Sporting Goods Inc.; and Scott Myers, executive director of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame all spoke withATR on Tuesday. The city is preparing for a visit from the International World Games Association this week.
All three say the city's existing sports venues, facilities for athletes and spectators, support from local universities and southern hospitality will impress the IWGA selection committee.
