Indian Olympic Association Approved Bid

The Indian Olympic Association decided last year it would bid for the 2020 Olympics.

Reports in Indian media say the IOA approved a bid at last year’s general assembly but decided not to announce its decision.

News of the bid reportedly surfaced only after the government pressured the IOA to disclose information about its activities.

Ukraine Considering 2022 Bid

Sergey Bubka, president of Ukraine National Olympic Committee said Ukraine will consider a bid for the 2022 Olympics, but admits the country has a lot of work to do.

"Usually, it takes seven years to get ready to host the Olympics" he said. "Other countries have also started from scratch, and we will do the same."

Vice prime minister Borys Kolesnykov said the government would offer its support for the bid, and offered a positive outlook for the bid’s prospects.

"If we start preparations now, the Olympic committee will accept our application" he told local media.

"If we invest $1 billion annually we stand a good chance to be ready by 2022."

No decision has been made on which city would bid for the Games. The two leading choices are Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk.

Pyeongchang Strives for Low-Carbon Games

Pyeongchang 2018 hosted an environmental sustainability workshop Wednesday to help the bid city deliver a low-carbon Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Bid committee members witnessed presentations by environmental officials and energy experts from the Climate Change Research Institute of Korea and the Research Institute for Gangwon, among other non-governmental organizations.

"Pyeongchang 2018 is committed to making environmental sustainability a top priority, and with the help of key environmental experts, we will construct and develop venues that minimise carbon emissions and use efficient and renewable sources of energy," Byung-Nam Lee, the bid’s director general of evaluation preparation, said in a statement.
