(ATR) Gerhard Heiberg, the head of the acclaimed 1994 Winter Olympics says Lillehammer is more than ready to deliver the second edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games.

He spoke with Around the Rings Editor Ed Hula on the eve of the YOG, which run from Feb 12 to 21.

Heiberg credits the experience of 1994 with giving the city the capability to stage the Winter YOG.

Heiberg defends the YOG against criticism from IOC colleague Richard Pound who questions the value of the event. Innsbruck hosted the first Winter YOG in 2012.

Heiberg says the YOG is important to sport for Norway and hopes it will lead to a new Olympic bid.
