500 Days to Nanjing 2014

It’s fewer than 500 days to go until the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

Chinese organizers marked Wednesday’s milestone by hosting a tree-planting day at Laoshan Forest Park and by unveiling a new website for the YOG.

"Thanks to the tremendous efforts of the talented Nanjing 2014 team, impressive progress has been made," said NYOGOC President Yang Weitze.

"I am in absolutely no doubt that the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games will be a great success and inspire young people from the city, nation and around the world to become more active in sport."

5 Years to Gold Coast 2018

Thursday marks five years to go until the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Australian organizers celebrated the milestone by unveiling their new logo during a ceremony at Broadwater Parklands.

"The emblem has been inspired by the Gold Coast’s stunning beach side location, its iconic skyline, and the colors are representative of the coast, the hinterland and the celebratory atmosphere which is synonymous with the region," Commonwealth Games Minister Jann Stuckey said in a statement.

"Centered upon fluid representations of a gymnast, a hurdler and a swimmer, the emblem reflects the Games’ deep heritage and humanity. Today’s unveiling shows the world the Gold Coast can’t wait to share this moment in history."

Commonwealth Games Federation President Tunku Imran added: "I’m delighted with the emblem. I feel it captures perfectly the warmth, the energy, the fun and the vibrancy of the Gold Coast and Queensland and represents everything the Commonwealth is looking forward to in 2018."
